University of Salford – Higher Education e-Procurement
The Higher Education e-Procurement marketplace is a solution which addresses the significant and complex problem of managing and streamlining the procurement process in UK Higher Education institutions. The marketplace software was developed by Softwire for the University of Salford, the lead institution in the initiative.
The solution adopts a highly innovative technical approach to integrating the various parties involved in the marketplace – namely HE institutions and their suppliers. Specifically, it implements a ‘thin marketplace’ whereby order information is seamlessly transferred between existing supplier e-commerce websites and HE institution finance systems using ‘punchout’ technology based on Softwire’s own Webmap product.
The marketplace won first prize in the Accountancy Age Award for e-Business Innovation in 2002, and in addition also gained first prize in the Channel Network Awards Best Corporate Internet Solution category.
