Softwire

Recruitment

Sunday Times Best Small Companies To Work ForSoftwire achieved a maximum 3 stars and 16th position in the 2011 Sunday Times Best Small Companies to Work For awards. This was the highest position of any UK software services company.

The judging process for these awards is based extensively on feedback provided by company staff about the satisfaction they derive from their day to day work, and the way they feel about their employer and working environment.

Softwire was also a finalist in our category in the Computer Weekly Best Places to Work in IT awards 2009, so we're very proud to have been given two such resounding thumbs up by our team!

Jobs at Softwire

Softwire is a highly successful, young company with around 60 staff and we are currently looking to expand. We are seeking:

  • top quality graduates and post-graduates with a desire to forge a career in software development or I.T. consultancy
  • highly talented developers with prior commercial experience.

We offer our developers and consultants an almost unbeatable package, including:

  • 2011 graduate starting salary of £30,000 (for those in London) - more for those with experience
  • annual bonus and profit share to further reward your contribution to the company’s success – graduates can expect to earn in the region of £35,000 in their first full year
  • a choice of working locations (London or Bristol), and the ability to change between the two
  • flexible working hours and conditions and no pressure to regularly work long hours
  • pension, permanent health insurance and all the other boring stuff
  • a relaxed and friendly working environment, subsidised cooked lunches, regular social events and company outings.

Working for a growing and dynamic company has plenty of advantages that simply aren't available at your average employer. For example:

  • varied and interesting work that will keep you on your toes day in, day out
  • focused training, rapid personal development, and the opportunity to take on positions of responsibility at a very early stage in your career
  • higher remuneration - we believe that all our staff should reap the rewards of our joint efforts and share in the company's success
  • all the benefits of working in a close-knit and supportive company - such as close monitoring of your achievement and progress, and a refreshing lack of bureaucracy.

And last but by no means least, at Softwire you have the opportunity to really make a difference.

But you don't have to take our word for it - find out what our employees and our interns think. Or for more information on our company and business, check out our company overview.

Your profile

You are a graduate with an impeccable academic record - usually straight A's at A-level and a good degree from a top university. You have a strong interest in (though not necessarily vast experience of) computers in general, and computer programming in particular. If you have prior commercial experience, you will have excelled at your former employers. You have an exceptional knack for problem solving and analytic deductive reasoning. You like a challenge and are hard working and eager to learn new skills. You want to work in London or Bristol. You are a good communicator and team player. You may have a desire to manage projects and people. You believe that a job should be more than just what you do to fill time between sleeping and partying - and you definitely have a good sense of humour.

In summary, we’re looking for people with stand-out enthusiasm and abilities, people who were top of all their classes and have the grades and awards to show for it.  You will need to demonstrate these qualities to us to be successful, so please make sure that they’re highlighted in your application.

Current vacancies

We are currently looking for:

  • trainee software developers and I.T. consultants
  • software developers with prior commercial experience
  • students interested in short-term software development internships over the summer holidays or otherwise (salary £20,000 per annum pro-rata)
  • experienced sales professionals.

We do not at present have vacancies in other areas, e.g. testing or project management.

Our recruitment process

At Softwire we pride ourselves on our responsiveness and quality of customer service. This also applies to our dealings with potential recruits - unlike so many employers we won't keep you waiting to hear from us, and our recruitment process moves as quickly as you need it to:

  • We respond to 95% of applications within one working day (and 99%+ within two) and will resolve any queries you have just as quickly
  • At every stage in the process it typically takes less than two working days for you to receive results
  • Interviews can be arranged as soon as you want them, subject to availability and two business days notice
  • Successful candidates often receive a firm job offer within two or three weeks of applying!

We value your precious time. We don't ask you to answer a lot of inane questions or spend hours on preparation - just have a 30 minute chat with us on the phone and subsequently a second interview in our offices (this consists of a number of technical and logical reasoning tests and usually takes half a day). That's it!
