Example Webmap Applications

Webmap is used within a number of different applications by Softwire's customers, including the following.

  • Webmap is used by a financial software products vendor to enable e-procurement between suppliers and their accounting product. Webmap ghosts the supplier's existing e-commerce website and intercepts the 'checkout shopping basket' action, raising an equivalent purchase order within the accounting product instead. This approach enables suppliers to be integrated at extremely low cost because they do not have to perform any integration work themselves, and gives the product vendor control over the order in which suppliers are integrated to best meet their own customer requirements.
  • Webmap is used by one of Softwire's travel industry customers to automate the processing of 'on request' bookings. In this case, Webmap is scripted to automatically check a third party supplier's website on a regular basis to look for changes in the status of any outstanding booking requests, and then to import the changes found directly into the customer's back-office system. This process was previously performed manually by reservations staff and was both time consuming and error prone. The Webmap solution therefore allowed significant efficiency gains to be realised.

Summary

Webmap is an extremely flexible product that can be deployed in many different ways, of which only a handful are described above. It has many diverse applications and can often provide a relatively simple solution to what would otherwise be a complex problem.
